Dehydration Causes and Symptoms: How to Treat It

The most common problem with most of us is that we do not drink enough water. We might have installed the most expensive water purifier in our houses and offices after checking the water purifier price list online and finding a good one within our budget. Even though we always have access to pure water, all that we manage to drink in a day is 1 to 2 liters of water per day, whereas the ideal amount should be between 3 to 4 liters of water in a day. This reduced water consumption every day keeps building up and leads to dehydration, which can make us weak.

But, how would you know that you are dehydrated? Here are few signs and symptoms that could possibly mean that you are dehydrated and need to start drinking more water.

  1. You Have Bad Breath

A lot of people associate bad breath with the lack of oral hygiene. Many think that the only reason for having a bad breath is because of not brushing teeth on that particular morning. While that is partially true, you also have to consider the amount of water intake if you have a bad breath. When the body does not get as much water as it needs, it stops producing saliva and that leads to bad breath. So, when you have bad breath for a long time, you know it is time to increase your water intake.

  1. Standing Suddenly Makes You Feel Dizzy

Has it ever happened to you that you stand suddenly and feel a rush of dizziness? Sounds familiar? This happens when your body does not get enough water. Your blood pressure drops and when you suddenly stand up after sitting for a long period of time, the instant drop in blood pressure makes you feel dizzy.

  1. You Have Frequent Muscle Cramps

You might have noticed many times that while you are exercising in hot weather you tend to get muscle cramps. This is because your body is not properly hydrated. When your body temperature rises, there is a heat effect on the muscles that work harder and harder. So, the muscles might seize due to the heat and lack of enough water. During colder months, you can still get muscle cramps when you are working out if your body is not hydrated enough.

  1. You Feel Hunger Pangs More Often

If you keep feeling hungry throughout the day even after you have proper meals, it might mean that your body is dehydrated. The constant need to binge on snacks is actually an indication from your body that it needs water. You mistake it for hunger and continue binge eating. Try drinking a glass of water whenever you feel hungry and wait or 10-15 minutes. You will notice that the hunger has subsided. It means your body needed water and not food.

As we all know, you just having water is not enough. You have to drink clean and pure drinking water. If not, the water you drink itself can turn out to be your foe, causing several waterborne diseases.  Make sure that you drink at least 4 litres of water per day to keep yourself adequately hydrated.
